About the Presenter

Rabbi Dr. Mordechai Schiffman is an assistant professor at Yeshiva University’s Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education, the assistant rabbi at Kingsway Jewish Center, and a licensed psychologist practicing in Brooklyn.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will be able to describe the REBT theory of emotional and behavioral change that can ameliorate anxiety and anger to help one achieve life goals
  2. Attendees will be able to identify specific irrational beliefs and cognitive distortions as they relate to generating anxiety and anger
  3. Attendees will be able to state empirically-derived treatment strategies for the treatment of anger and anxiety
  4. Attendees will be able to fill in an ABC framework of their own, as it relates to an anger or anxiety related case.

Agenda:

Part 1 - Basic Overview of REBT & Irrational Beliefs (15 minutes)

Part 2 - Demonstration of the ABC model for anxiety (15 minutes)

Part 3 - Demonstration of the ABC model for anger (15 minutes)

Part 4 - Attendees will attempt to work through an ABC on their own, using a communal example (10 minutes to try, 5 minutes to review)
