Learning Objectives:

  1. Prescriptive teaching - how to continuously use a test-and-teach mode of remediation to assure that what you teach is precisely what the child needs.
  2. A balanced reading program - how to remediate phonetic deficits, develop comprehension skills, and foster a love of reading.
  3. Communication skills and systems - necessary to build independence and confidence in your students.
  4. Skill and strategy programs - to foster language and literacy (including actual samples).
  5. Humor - in the remedial session.
  6. Success in literacy - to build self-confidence and self-esteem.
  7. Parental contact - the importance of and the how to.
  8. The structure of the remedial session - including lesson plans, time management, teachable moments, materials needed, and effective homework planning.
  9. A wide variety of literature - including a list of suggested books and series.

  • Advanced practitioners seeking to review concepts and reinforce practice skills and/or access additional consultation
